Some studies have shown that members of the opposite sex find persons with white teeth more attractive.
But whether or not getting whiter teeth can actually help you find a mate or the love of your life? Well, that’s anyone’s guess. However, when your teeth are whiter, you smile more and the world could definitely use more smiles more often!
Professional Tooth Whitening: Have you been considering whitening your teeth?
If so, you may be wondering what the difference is between professional tooth whitening and home tooth whitening products. Or tooth whitening kits you can use at home?
Let’s talk about at-home tooth whitening first…
There are several different products and methods available for at home tooth whitening as opposed to professional tooth whitening:
Whitening Toothpastes and Whitening Tooth Polishes –
Whitening toothpastes and whitening tooth polishes can help remove minor surface stains from the teeth. Many of these will have baking soda as a component. Generally speaking, whitening toothpastes and/or whitening tooth polishes are used for maintaining a stain-free tooth surface after a cleaning or professional tooth whitening service. They are not usually effective for multiple-level whitening. They can, however, be used daily.
Tooth Whitening Strips –
Tooth whitening strips are typically worm for up to 30 minutes at a time. They also typically have baking soda and/or peroxide as a component. Whitening strips used consistently over time may work on moderate surface stains that are relatively new. And where a 1 – 2 level lift is desired. But again, they must be used many times over an extended period of time to see any kind of effect.
Another downside to tooth whitening strips is that they need to be used often to have any real effect. A result is that their usage can result in some pretty significant tooth sensitivity in some people.
Home Tooth Whitening Trays –
Home tooth whitening trays were designed to mimic professional tooth whitening of a few years ago. The tooth whitening formula they use is similar to the tooth whitening formula previously used in a dental professional’s office. It's just weaker.
Home whitening tray kits are moderately effective in removing up to moderate stains if they aren't too old. But they are not fitted like the trays you would get from a dentist. This means the formula can get on the gums, resulting in fairly significant sensitivity and discomfort.
Professional Tooth Whitening / Professional In-Office Teeth Whitening –
Professional in-office teeth whitening is one of the most common procedures performed in dental offices today. The tooth whitening options available via your dentist are also the most effective. They offer multiple levels of whitening quickly in just a matter of a couple of hours with some procedures.
