Dr. Cigno has always prided himself on his belief in patient-centered care. Since the age of five, when Dr. Cigno saw how his father was able to change the lives of people through dentistry, he knew he wanted to be a dentist. Together, he and his father still share a passion for dentistry. One of the ways the Drs. Cigno give back to the community is through a wonderful organization called Dentistry from the Heart.
Have a Heart
Founded in 2001, Dentistry from the Heart is a worldwide nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free dental care to those in need. Every year, thousands of individual dentists, hygienists, and volunteers donate their time and resources to host their own events. Over 300 events per year help thousands of patients. It’s truly an incredible organization.
Dr. Cigno and his father have donated their time and expertise for the past few years. On Saturday, April 11th, Dr. Roberto Monteagudo sponsored an event and Dr. Cigno was happy to take part. He was able to provide care to dozens of patients who would otherwise have very little access to quality dental care.
Deserve 2 Serve
Dr. Cigno feels extremely lucky that he’s been called to help others through dentistry. People in need often feel like they don’t get the one-on-one, focused attention they need (especially when it comes to their oral health) and it’s touching when they say that a visit with Dr. Cigno makes them feel important. For a little while, they’re not just a number or a statistic.
There’s a limited amount of dental care that can be done in one visit, of course. The doctors are mostly limited to fillings, extractions, cleanings and exams. In special cases, when a child needs another visit but can’t pay for follow up care, Dr. Cigno will ask the child to pay-it-forward as “payment” for the procedure.
Moving Forward
Dr. Cigno will continue to work with Dentistry from the Heart in the coming years. He feels that if you’ve been lucky enough to live your life’s passion, it’s your privilege to give back to those who might not have that opportunity. It’s your duty to share your gifts with the world even if it’s just one toothy smile at a time!
