Cigno Family Dental is very saddened to learn of the passing of one of our community members. Amber Ruth Ripple, 28, took her life after a long battle with mental illness.
Amber was the only child of Jodie Baacke and Henry Ripple, Jr. Through her life, she hid much of her struggle with her mental illness and kept only several close friends though she was dearly loved. The crushing societal stigma against mental health issues created an additional burden for Amber.
Despite all she was going through, Amber dedicated much of her time to the study of mental health issues in an effort to better understand herself. She studied psychology, anthropology, dietetics and health & wellness management at the University of Wisconsin; her dream was to provide support and guidance for others like her who struggle with mental health issues.
May is Mental Health Month
Amber’s Last Promise, Inc., was created in Amber’s memory and is dedicated to raising awareness about mental health in the United States. Each day, about 85 take their own lives due to mental illness – this is due, in large part, to societal stigma around mental health illness.
The mission of Amber’s Last Promise, Inc., is to significantly decrease the number of suicides. Suicide is preventable when we support, listen to and create a safe space for individuals suffering from mental health issues.
This month, show your support for mental health sufferers and their family members by wearing the color lime green. Drop by the Cigno Family Dental office and pick up a lime green hat/lapel pin to wear and show your support.
At Cigno Family Dental, we know that the most important thing is family and community. We think of our patients as family members, and care for their dental health with as much dedication and concern that we would have for our own family members.
We are greatly saddened by the loss of Amber, and send our love and deepest sympathies to her family.
